Nikita – Madeira’s icy … but exotic cocktail
♪♪ Hey Nikita is it cold
In your little corner of the world?
Oh Nikita you will never know anything about my home
I’ll never know how good it feels to hold you
Nikita I need you so ♪♪
Origin
Rumor has it that this famous cocktail owes its name to Elton John’s hit song: Nikita. Both came out and were stars in 1985.
This Nikita cocktail is one of the many known and famous drink typical to Madeira Island. The others are Poncha, Madeira Wine, Rum, Coral and the nice table wines.
It is warm outside. You are just back from one of the many amazing activities available on Madeira. Alternatively, you could be chilling at the Clube Naval of Seixal. Then again, you might be relaxing at a tavern after a day filled with sightseeing, levada walks or even shopping. Whichever… it is always a good time to try a Nikita.
A Nikita is sweet, cold and exotic! It makes for a nice refreshing break.

- This cocktail is very tasty as well in its “virgin” version. Hence, without white wine and / or beer.
- Try this cocktail with other fruits found on Madeira such strawberry or passion fruit
- If you cannot find a fresh pineapple, you can also use canned pineapple
- Why not listen to the Nikita, the song which gave its name to the cocktail while you prepare it?
